Professor Dr. Ishrat Jahan
Professor of Finance & Head of DBA,
Southern University

Professor Dr. Ishrat Jahan is working as a Dean of Faculty of Business Administration at Southern University Bangladesh. She is also holding the position of Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Southern University Bangladesh. Professor Dr. Jahan is currently serving as a professor of Department of Business administration and the coordinator of General Education (GEd) at Southern University.

She started her teaching career in the year 1999 as an Instructor. Professor Dr. Ishrat Jahan has over 22 years of experience within the education sector, research, teaching design, and implementation of projects in the field of higher education in Bangladesh. In the year 2002, Professor Dr. Ishrat Jahan joined Southern University, shortly after she had organized the Department of Business Administration. Under her leadership and close supervision, the Department of Business Administration is one of the leading Business schools in Chattogram.

Professor Jahan received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Chittagong. She completed her MBA in Finance. Dr. Jahan received her MPhil & Ph.D. from the University of Chittagong in Finance and Banking. Her Ph.D. research title was “Portfolio Management Policy and Performance of Some Asset-Management Companies in Bangladesh – An Evaluative Study”. She is the co-author of Finance, Banking, and Insurance under NCTB (XI & XII class Book).

She attended and gave a number of research presentations during past years in local & International seminars and conferences and has had many publications in peer-reviewed journals during the past twenty-two years. Her research focuses on Financial Institutions, assessing the sources of productivity growth and sustainability Development of Higher Education.

She has been involved in the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) as a team leader. Her responsibilities have ranged from financial and administrative management of projects, designing and managing projects; monitoring, auditing and evaluating; developing training material; facilitating workshops and giving presentations at conferences.

She teaches several graduate & undergraduate courses on Mathematics for Decision Making, Financial Management, Statistics, and Research Methodology, etc. In 1992 Dr. Ishrat was financially awarded from the University of Chittagong and 1989 from Comilla Board for academic performances.

She visited over 15 countries throughout North America, Middle East & Asia.

Professor Ishrat is involved in many social and cultural welfare activities. She is the vice-president (outreach) Bangladesh Society for Private University Academics (BSPUA).
